Project #1

Megan Scherer

Where do I go?

Is a piece I made about the strange things we do in a dream. How we wake up in strange places, and cant quite tell if we are having a dream or not. Using the land around me I collected flowers to float a bouquet down the river. The reason I chose this river, is due to it not being seen as pretty, or clean as a water source. Flowers in this situation can refer to ephemeral beauty not being able to be kept. The environment allowing me to sit with the beauty for a while before returning it back to its rightful owner. Overall, dreaming and beauty doesn't last, and does not belong to us.

  1. Hi Megan,
I am obsessed with how you made this! The superimposition of the repeated delayed clips and the way you captured those bright, vivid colors really evoke that surreal feeling of dreaming. I could also relate it to a memory, either fading or being pieced back together. One suggestion I have to build your technical approach to this piece is to experiment with audio, maybe by adding light music, clearer ambient sounds, or a voiceover of a poem that ties into your concept. That could help pull the viewer deeper into the dreamy feeling of your piece. This was absolutely beautiful and such a creative idea!

  2. I really enjoyed this video! I love the sound quality and the shots of the chosen landscape. Such a beautiful representation of a dream and how we experience place in our dreams. The editing to show yourself traveling through the dream was really cool to see. If I were to see the video without any context, I really would feel the sense of environment. I am not sure if I would associate it with a dream; to me, the walking seemed more like your soul exploring through the wilderness, but the different interpretations of this video are also what make this video great in my eyes. It could be anything the viewer chooses to see. Great work, again. I really enjoyed this.

  3. This is such a beautiful concept! Using the river as a place for fleeting beauty really stuck with me. I love how you tied it to the feeling of dreaming, and how both beauty and dreams are temporary and not ours to keep. The act of releasing the flowers felt symbolic and peaceful. Really poetic work.
