This project is a continuation of asking the question Where do I go, when sleeping, and when arriving at a new place from sleep. Why does the rain from outside my dreams infiltrate's my subconscious while dreaming? How does my body know when to wake up before arriving to my desired location? Why do repeated sounds and movements cause me to fall asleep? This video explores all of these questions, without answer. The questions have no answer because most of the time there is no true real answer. Leaving me and the viewer with the question "Where do I go?".
Using my camera, stand, and lots of video editing. I was able to overlay, and time lapse, and layer different videos to portray my feelings of dreams. Leaving the viewer with a feeling of drifting in and out, and not knowing what is happening first. Also adding a feeling of nonsensicalness, doing things for no reason, and confusion as to why I am doing things. What is the purpose, is there one? Dreams are also seen as predictions, or leading to have meaning to the conscious mind (if you remember your dreams). Causing a push for even more questions! What does this dream mean?
At the end of the day, while trying to reshoot it rained all week. So... I had to work with what I had and be creative as well. If it wasn't raining then I would have way more of an expansion in my clips, on top of a different narrative for the story line. I was forced to get creative to do the landscape, leading into a conversation about this class. The landscape changed the focus of my project, on top of limiting me to constraints with my creativity. Forcing me to get even more crafty with the final project. I'd like to say that I am proud of my final project of college, and I am grateful for this experience.
I love this concept of dreams and having the audience and yourself question most of the video and what is happening, since dreams don't usually make sense. I think even with the rain happening and only working with this, it still works so well in the video, and it does come across the direction you were going with.
ReplyDeleteHi Megan! Your video’s atmosphere really dives into that waking-dream space, you did an amazing job using overlays and time-lapse to give that drifting feeling. For a future version, you might want to consider adding one or two recurring sounds or visuals that appear throughout the piece, like a high frequency or dreamlike noise or a person's silhouette. It could create a subtle guide for viewers to latch onto throughout the video and can help maintain engagement with the dreamlike chaos. Overall, great work!
